An unspoilt gem of medieval architecture bathed in the golden light reflected by the local Périgord stone, the artistic and historic town of Sarlat has kept its architectural heritage intact. Examples of Roman, 13th century, Gothic and Renaissance architecture can all be found in the town's historic centre.
Since the 13th and 14th centuries Sarlat has been well-known for its fairs and markets and the tradition continues to this day! Added to this, the imposing ochre coloured buildings, the market stalls in the Place de la Liberté laden with tempting local produce, the restaurants which offer visitors unique gastronomic menus based on local ingredients ... all of these form an invitation to the senses making the town particularly enticing from all points of view.
Finally, Sarlat is also a cultural haven with its cinema festival in November and its theatre festival in late July providing magical moments full of emotion.
